VOIP at home, where art thou?

I just read in the New York Times this morning that Sunrocket, the VOIP service that we use for our home phone has gone out of business. That totally sucks, we loved their service as it was super cheap ($199/year unlimited long distance, etc) and flawless in voice quality.

  • I had heard good things about sunrocket. It's bummer that they are going belly up. More and more I see these kind of companies I think we are still not ready for IP phones yet...

    We still have a long way to go with VOIP. I was just reading about this article

  • Thats bad! We use Vonage at home and its pretty good.
    I guess Skype has created a tough competition :)
  • @raghu: great article, thanks. what totally shocked me this week is the company ooma, who has 27m of vc backing, has startup a new service to be launched this week. the service is free, you just need to buy their hardware. no thanks :) mobile phones will work fine for us around the house.

    @praveen: interesting that you bring up skype. that article that raghu posted predicted they will, but also predicted 200k chinese will sign up for skype per day. wow.
